Q and A with the Vocational Coach
|
(Each month we will highlight 10 stories to share) I have been reading this site's contents since it went live a few weeks ago. A friend told me about it. I am glad I found it. Everything Craig writes about, I have found to be true in my own life. The only thing I would add to others pondering their next move is don't ponder any longer! I have learned the hard way that life is what each of us make it. No company is ever going to set up a structure for you to sell flowers if that's your passion and their focus is electronics. Take charge yourself! Ralph - Park Maintenance engineer - New York City I have been a high school teacher for 30 years until recently. My family and peers thought I was crazy when I decided to leave teaching to follow my life long dream of opening up my own travel business. I figured at 54 years of age, it was time to stop dreaming and start doing! Ann- Midwest travel business owner Cubicles, Cubicles, Cubicles...That's my life. maybe one day, I'll figure how to break out. For now, my life is what it is, boring but it pays the rent! Clancy- East Coast web designer I have recently decided to do some soul searching to figure out my passions. I have lots of them. I just never thought of making money at them before to support my family. I have heard that once you turn your hobby into a money earning venture, all the fun goes away. After reviewing this site though, I am beginning to wonder? Phillip- East Coast Manager I recently found this site by accident. I was actually looking for a site to understand what happens in mid-life. Wow! I am glad I found this site. I never really considered this concept Craig Nathanson calls Vocational Passion but I like it! I mentioned this to my HR rep last week and asked if my company would consider a program to help the employee's find their vocational passion. I swear, it was like I asked if I could have a ten week vacation on the house. The more I keep thinking about it, I might just take that vacation for life and do for the first in my life what I actually want. What a concept! Dan- West Coast engineer Not sure if I buy this vocational concept for me. I mean, I don't like what I do but the pay is good and I only have 10-15 years until retirement so that's not bad. Then I can really do what I want. Perhaps for others, that might be too long to wait Gloria -East Coast sales rep Craig, Love your site. What a great service to us baby boomers who have been spoiled to think that it's such an easy ride. Now that the economy and war is looming, I hope people take your sincere coaching and look into themselves more with regards to their work life. I know I am starting to! Andy- West Coast insurance rep After reviewing this site, I thought I would share my story. I was recently diagnosed with cancer which is being treated early so the doctor believes I should come out of this ok, This experience and the fact that I am 51 has really made me step back and examine my life. Now I think there are so many other ways for me to serve the world then just directing meetings and handling budget fires. I know I am going to find out! I quit or should I say escaped my job last week. I collect old cars and restore them and perhaps now I can spend more time doing this while figuring out how I can give something back. Thanks for the advice on this site! Tom- East Coast Sr.manager I am so sick of the non-valued added things in my life like my job! I mean I need to earn an income but lately it seems every day is exactly like the rest. You know you have been at a job too long when you feel lonely because you missed the water delivery guy today and didn't have others to say hello to. I don't know what my vocational passion is but I intend to find out! Thanks for being there! Alex- West Coast State worker I think if I attend one more meeting with the boss to discuss how the company is not meeting their goals, I am going to be sick. In ten years here, I can't remember one time when my boss asked me if I was meeting my vocational passion goals! Nancy- West Coast Buyer
